I’m back, Lord. And my life is a mess. Maggie MacDonald ponders the shambles of her closest relationships from her Pearl Lake dock. Josh Her grandson just returned from combat overseas and needs independent R&R, not “grand-mothering.” When he finds the freedom to be himself with her fun and fancy neighbor, Maggie resents the loss of his companionship. Charlie Her long-time friend and recent love interest starts spending time with a lady friend from his past. When she enters the picture in a flashy red dress, Maggie lets the green-eyed monster of jealousy out, and her relationship with Charlie falls apart. Wanda and Ellen The cord of three strands that Maggie formed with her two girlfriends begins to fray. Their unique needs and wants rub against each other, causing friction that needs the soothing oil of open communication. Return to the String of Pearls where the water gets rough but there’s a rainbow at the end of the storm.

Maggie's Rainbow: A Cord of Three Strands, Book 2 by Lydia Moen
I have read book #1 a string of pearls and enjoyed the book so it's a series with the same characters.
This book starts out with Maggie and she's had to call 911 as she hears intruders and glass breaking downstairs. After climbing into the closet the chief of police announces he's there and tells her things about the muffins she has fed him to make her realize he's the good guy.
Misunderstandings all around as her grandson Josh is back from Germany where the military has patched him up. He and his friend are there. Hank is a mess and he gets in a bit of trouble while there. The others have tried to help him but are not sure it's for the best that he remain there....
What I like about this book is the sense of community-love the idea of the gift shop and who is to help/volunteer.
Lots of new places to visit along with the characters. Very descriptive, so detailed you feel as if you are there.
Like all the different ages of the characters and the different struggles they each have and how Al has the right answer for them all, as if by magic the scriptures appear with the appropriate message.
Refreshing way of analyzing the problems, writing them down. Book is rich and plentiful with God's scriptures throughout the hard times.
Love the meaning of the rainbow, strong bond of the three cords, and the twist at the end as we often go on surprise journeys, not telling the other where the end result will be... Can't wait for the next from the three authors.
Wish they had put the recipe for peanut butter goodies in the book.

A continuing story of family dynamics with lots of love and a mixture of funny and serious situations.
Maggie's Rainbow is a humorous book with an excellent finale. Widow Maggie MacDonald faces jealousy as well as other emotions resulting in her grandson moving out, friction between her and her best friends and estrangement from her gentleman friend. Maggie certainly leads an interesting life! If you enjoy comedy, you will want to read this book. I received my e-book of Maggie's Rainbow from [...] This is my honest opinion of the book.
I have not had the pleasure of reading book 1 so I was a bit lost at first. However, Maggie and her friends soon make one feel welcome in the small town of Water's Edge. I love how there is a home town feel. I love the fact of community. Maggie and her community rally around and make one feel welcome.

The book begins with Maggie calling 911 because of a possible intruder. When they find out all is well, Maggie finds that her grandson Josh is here for a visit with his friend Hank. Well, Hank has some problems and those around Maggie wonder if this is the best place for him. Will she and Josh be able to get past their differences?

Meanwhile, her new flame Charlie has rekindled an old friendship. Will these two be able to find their way past the green eyed monster? Will they be able to continue as more than friends? And what is wrong with A Cord of Three Strands?

The characters and vivid details will draw the reader in. I recommend this book! I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
Maggie McDonald lives in Water's Edge, WI within walking distance of her two best friends, Wanda and Ellen. They call themselves A Cord of Three Strands, because their friendship represents the cord of three strands that is not easily broken from the Bible. Maggie has been widowed a year and has begun seeing Charlie as more than friends quite recently. When her grandson, Josh, comes back from the military hospital in Germany and moves in with her, Maggie discovers that her "fixer" nature doesn't work for their relationship. Can she learn to stay out of Josh's business, treat him like the adult he is, and take care of her own "stuff"?

As if her grandson weren't enough to think about, suddenly Charlie is offering his spare room to a beautiful old friend of his deceased wife. Maggie retaliates by going to Madison for her alma mater's homecoming where she reconnects with her old college boyfriend. Can she and Charlie get past her jealousy to the relationship they are meant to have?

I liked the story but was not a huge fan of the choppy writing style. I felt like the authors would get on a good roll with a story line then, bang, they were off on a different tangent with little to no transition between. If you don't mind that kind of thing, you'll like this book. Like I said, the basic story was a good one that kept me engaged. I just wish the many, many transitions in the story would have been smoother.
