"I fought one war on the battlefield. Now I fight another in my mind."
Jay is always on the run--always looking for the next place to start a new life. But no matter how much he moves, he can't escape the painful memories that haunt him. As he settles into his latest job in the warehouse at a glass bottle factory, he finds himself the target of his co-workers' teasing. When he takes a stand against one of the bullies, a fight breaks out. His boss, a war vet named Reese, steps in, and Jay accidentally shoves him to the ground, revealing Reese's prosthetic leg. Jay's sure he's gonna lose his job, but he's blown away when he's given another shot.
Reese is annoyed by the new guy. Jay is reckless and temper prone. Maybe Reese shouldn't have given him a second chance, but his attitude reminds him of his war buddy--a guy who he cared deeply for and who he lost under tragic circumstances. He just hopes Jay doesn't let him down.
When an accident in the factory triggers one of Reese's PTSD episodes, Jay returns the favor by being there for him and keeping anyone else from discovering the incident. Reese wants to move on and forget it ever happened, but Jay won't let it go. And as much as Reese tries to keep his distance, there's a heat--a passion--between them that he can't resist. It leads them to the bedroom again and again, but Reese quickly realizes they've ignited more than the sparks they create between the sheets. And despite the tough-guy faCade Jay puts on, underneath there's a soul just as tortured and hurt as he is. He's starting to fall for Jay, but he knows there's a dark storm lurking in the back of his own mind--a storm that will return one day and destroy the beautiful connection they share.

This review is actually long overdue. I finished the book a week ago, and wanted to take my time to get this one right. This book is, by far, one of the most powerful, well written books I have read in a very long time. While the subject may not necessarily lend itself to the idea of being a romance, make no mistake, that is exactly what this is. A story of two men, each buried in their own pasts. There's a spark between them the moment they meet, and while it may start as something physical, that spark soon leads to an emotional journey for both. Together, they use that spark to chase away the darkness and develop the type of bond that most would envy.
Jay and Reese are so well developed that you can't help but think what they think and feel what they feel. I loved these characters so much, and truly enjoyed every second of watching them overcome their own issues to find their way to each other. Their journey is emotional, raw, and worth every second.

Between These Sheets Devon McCormack 9781635879889 Books Reviews
I loved this book, not just because I'm a fan of Devon, but I enjoyed the story immensely. PTSD is not a light subject, I gre up with a dad who suffered from his time in Vietnam. I loved the dynamics between the two and the mature way they worked through their issues. My little heart broke a few times, but the boys and their sweetness were able to reboot my heart. And I love epilogues, thank you for a great one.
This book is darkness and light and love and angst all wrapped up in one big ball of feels. Devon went so deep with the truth of PTSD, and how it affects every aspect of a person's life. It was beautiful to see these two tortured souls find their way to complete harmony together. This is one of those book that you finish, and then close the book (or kindle) and just stare it for awhile while you digest the complex mastery of literature that you've just consumed. My first thought was, "Whoa. Intense." I recommend this book so much, it's not just a love story, it's journey.
Wow!!! I haven't cried so much in a long time, tears of sadness and happiness. Reese is left traumatized after his deployment for the military. He's pretty much given up all hope of ever having a meaningful life when Jay, who's seen his share of heartache, ends up rocking his world, literally. The emotions of learning to love while helping each other face their demons was beautiful. Devon managed to pull me into their story and feel every single moment of sadness, despair, happiness, and love. Excellent!!!!!
3.5
Reese suffers from PTSD from his military service and Jay suffers his own type of PTSD in the form of anger issues from an abusive and horrific childhood. Each man finds similarity, camaraderie and compassion within the other, and a relationship that starts as a sexual fling evolves into something that grounds and centers each man. There is a lot of sex, which makes sense given how the relationship starts, which seems to try to balance the darker themes, but, along with the dialogue, can be a bit repetitive. A few of scenes could have been cut to make room for a more fully realized epilogue to show their growth rather than hint at it, but overall it’s a good read.
I have never read anything the this author has written before, but I am very pleased. Both men in the story are traumatized, one an amputee from the Iraq war, and the other seriously abused and non-trusting. The story is told at a very nice pace, it is not always predictable, as some books in this genre can be. On of the things that I like is that the sex, while graphic, doesnt last for 10 pages every time the guys have it. There are other supporting charactors who add greatly to the story. This is a very enjoyable read with interesting twists and turns. If you enjoy M/M romance, you should give this a read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
WOW....To me, this story was UNFORGETTABLE and POWERFUL. First of all, I am not a Veteran. I am thankful to all who have served our nation, I am proud to be an American. I am however ashamed of the resources that are available to our maimed and damaged upon their return. I applaud Devon McCormack for showing the flaws and mistakes that Reese made in NOT seeking help faster with his PTSD. I also THANK YOU for showing that Reese WAS NOT crippled, because he had a limb amputation. I appreciated that you chose to show him as a beautiful, strong, physically active, capable man. Jay with his brooding attitude, chip on his shoulder and bags packed, was the perfect person for Reese. I loved this couple. I loved that Jay used comedy and loving memories of his brother to help him deal with his childhood induced PTSD. Even though it was never called that, I think he could've used a little help from Laura. I loved how these characters meshed together and filled the voids that the other didn't even know he was missing. BTW, I laughed about Jay's thong argument until I was silly. This is an absolutely amazing story about two very tough, life grizzled men, who dared to try one more time. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!!
Reese is a disabled veteran who is plagued with PTSD and has lost a leg in the war.Jay is a man who has been hurt by so many others that he has learned to run away when things get tough. This is the story of how these two find each other and find the greatest love of their lives. I know how hard this can be as I'am a veteran with ptsd. This book hits the nail right on the head. I hope all gay vets will read this book and find hope for their own lives.
